Clement Mmaduako Nwafor, born in 1981, is an award-winning contemporary Nigerian Artist who
lives and works in Abuja. He has long started his art subconsciously when, as a child, he would
spend hours drawing with colored pencils. As time, Clement went by he studied under Master
Philip Nzekwe who guided him and trained in sculpture, while he has gone ahead to execute
numerous commissions in sculpture. Thereafter, Clement also went ahead to develop his skills in
painting under a renowned Nigerian Artist Oswald Uruakpa.
Over the years, he became a full-time studio painter artist. His paintings are usually done with oil
on canvas with collages often using pieces of fabrics resulting in stunning mixed media artworks.
The colorful “Gele” fabric, used to cover the women’s Nigerian heads, features heavily in his work.
Thus, Clement expertly gives life and movement to the folds of fabric to energize his artworks.
With his soft and colorful as well as his mastery of oil color,
Clement creates superb paintings presenting a living soul and an amazing rendering of subjects.
In 2014, he won the first prize award in the National Visual Art Competition organized by the
National Gallery of Art in Nigeria.
In the same year, he became one of the top (24th) artists in a National Competition, Organised by
the Life In My City Art Festival (LIMCAF) in Nigeria.
